Virgil City is a small place in Missouri that isn't officially a city or town. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. Virgil City is located in Cedar County, Missouri. Part of it even stretches into Vernon County! You can find it southwest of El Dorado Springs. It's also northeast of Montevallo.

How Virgil City Started

Virgil City was planned out in 1866. This process is called "platting." It means someone drew up maps for streets and land plots. The community was named after its founder, a person named Virgil W. Kimball. A post office opened in Virgil City in 1868. It helped people send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years. It finally closed its doors in 1905.
