Virginia Heights is a cool place to explore! It's located in southwestern Arlington, right next to another historic area called the Columbia Forest Historic District. This neighborhood has 117 buildings that are important to its history.

They show how people lived or what buildings looked like a long time ago. The Virginia Heights Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. A Look Back: How Virginia Heights Grew
The homes in Virginia Heights were mostly built between 1946 and 1952. This was right after World War II. The neighborhood grew from four smaller areas. These were Section Four of Columbia Forest, High Point, Virginia Heights, and Frederick Hill.
Homes with a Story: Architecture Styles
The houses in Virginia Heights show different styles of building. Many homes are in the Colonial Revival style. This style looks back to the homes built when America was first founded. Other houses are in the Modernist style. These homes have cleaner lines and a more simple look. A famous local architect named Charles M. Goodman designed some of these modern twin homes.
Special Homes: Prefabricated and Lustron Houses
Did you know some homes can be built in a factory? In Virginia Heights, there are five homes that were built this way. They are called prefabricated houses. Three of these are very special Lustron houses. Lustron homes were made from steel and designed to be easy to build and last a long time. They were a cool idea for housing after the war!
