Virudhunagar district facts for kids
Virudhunagar district is a cool place in Tamil Nadu, a state in southern India. The main city, also called Virudhunagar, is where the district's headquarters are located. This district was created in 1987. Before that, it was part of a bigger area called Ramanathapuram District. When it was formed, the old Ramanathapuram District was split into three parts: Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai District, and the western part became Virudhunagar District. For a while, it was even known as Karmavirar Kamarajar District, named after a famous leader, K. Kamaraj. In 2011, about 1,942,288 people lived here.

Virudhunagar district is famous for many things it produces. It's one of the top places in India for making matchsticks, fireworks, and for printing. Most of this work happens in and around a town called Sivakasi. Sivakasi is so well-known for its fireworks that people sometimes call it "Small Japan" because it's one of the biggest fireworks producers in the world! Virudhunagar is also a major trading center for items like sesame oil, chicory, coffee seeds, dry chillies, and different kinds of beans (pulses).
