Viviane Romance (born Pauline Ronacher Ortmanns; 4 July 1912 – 25 September 1991) was a famous French actress. She was born in Roubaix, France, and later passed away in Nice, Alpes-Maritimes.

Viviane started her career as a dancer at the famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. In 1930, she was even chosen as Miss Paris! This caused a bit of a stir because she already had a child, which was unusual for beauty queens at that time. She made her very first movie appearance in 1931 in a film called La Chienne.

Viviane's Acting Career

Viviane Romance quickly became a well-known actress in France. From the mid-1930s until the late 1950s, she was considered one of the top movie stars in her country. She often played strong, independent female characters, sometimes misunderstood women, in dozens of films.

She was offered a chance to work in Hollywood in the 1930s, but she chose to stay and make movies in France. However, she did live in Italy for many years and acted in several Italian films too. Viviane continued acting until 1974, when she retired.

Personal Life

Viviane Romance was married three times during her life. Her husbands included the actor Georges Flamant and the film director Jean Josipovici. Jean Josipovici even directed her in three of her movies.
