Vodka 14 is a type of vodka made by a company called Altitude Spirits. It is produced in Rigby, Idaho, and its main office is in Boulder, Colorado. This product has a special certification from the USDA, which means it meets certain organic standards.
The vodka is made from organic corn and rye. It also uses fresh spring water from the Rocky Mountains, specifically from the Snake River Aquifer in eastern Idaho. Vodka 14 was first shown to the public at a special event called the Healthy Gourmet Festival in Aspen, Colorado.
This product has received some awards. In 2009, it won the Platinum Award at the Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards competition. Two years before that, in 2007, it earned a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
About the Company
Vodka 14 started with an idea from two friends, Matthew Baris and Jonathan Weiss. They both graduated from New York University. They thought that Colorado needed its own special, small-batch vodka. This idea was similar to how many small, local breweries make their own unique beers.
Because of this idea, Matthew and his father, Mitch, created a company called Altitude Spirits. They then began making Vodka 14. Today, this product is sold in many places across Colorado and can also be bought online.
What's on the Label?
The label on the bottle tells you some important things about Vodka 14. It says that the product is made from 100% neutral spirits. These spirits come from certified organic grain. This grain is grown especially for Altitude Spirits, Inc., which is based in Boulder, Colorado.
The label also states that the vodka is distilled, or made, by Altitude Spirits, Inc., in Rigby, Idaho. It has been certified as organic by an organization called Oregon Tilth. Finally, the label confirms that the product is made in the USA.
Colorado Connections
Even though Vodka 14 is made in Idaho, the company that owns and runs it is located in Boulder, Colorado. Most of the product is sold in Colorado. The packaging and advertising for Vodka 14 often show things related to the state of Colorado.
For example, the picture on the bottle is of Wilson Peak, a famous mountain in Colorado. The number "14" in the name "Vodka 14" is also a nod to Colorado. It refers to the fact that many of Colorado's tallest mountains are over 14,000 feet high above sea level.
