WQBT (94.1 FM), also known as "94.1 The Beat," is a popular radio station in Savannah, Georgia. It plays urban contemporary music, which includes popular styles like hip-hop and R&B. The station is owned by a company called iHeartMedia, Inc.. Its main studios are in Garden City, near Savannah. The signal for the station comes from a transmitter located west of Savannah in Chatham County.
What's on the Air?
WQBT is known for its fun morning shows. For a while, the station had a show called "Star and Buc Wild." Later, the "Russ Parr" show took over the morning slot. As of 2016, the station's morning show is The Breakfast Club, which is very popular.
Station History
WQBT has been on the air for a long time, starting in 1946. Back then, it was known as WTOC-FM. It used to play the same programs as another station, WTOC (AM).
Changing Music Styles
Before it played urban contemporary music, WQBT was a country music station for many years. It was known as WCHY and would often call itself "Y-94." The letters WCHY even stood for "We're Country Hits Yall!" This was to compete with another local station, WEAS.
Later, the station changed its name again to WSCA-FM and was called "Cat Country 94." Over the years, the station changed owners a few times before becoming the "94.1 The Beat" you hear today.
