Where is Wadsworth?

The weather in Wadsworth has hot and humid summers. Winters are usually mild, meaning not too cold. This type of weather is called a humid subtropical climate. On climate maps, it's often shown as "Cfa."
A Look at Wadsworth's History
Wadsworth was started on October 11, 1902. Two people, Ambrose A. Plotner and John W. Stoddard, bought some land. They formed a company called Colonial Land Company. They named the new community Wadsworth after William Wadsworth, who was an early settler in the area.
Wadsworth became a stop for the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad. This helped the community grow. A post office opened there in 1907. By 1914, about 150 people lived in Wadsworth. This number grew a lot, reaching almost 925 people by 1925. In the 1930s, Wadsworth even had its own school district.
However, the community started to get smaller. By 1940, the population had dropped to 400 people. Wadsworth's school joined with the Bay City school district in 1949. In 1990, about 152 people lived in Wadsworth. By 2000, the number went up a little to 160.
Today, Wadsworth still has a post office with the ZIP code 77483. There are also three convenience stores in the community.

Wadsworth was first counted as a special "census designated place" in the 2020 U.S. Census. In 2020, the total population was 302 people. Most residents, about 78.81%, were White. About 17.55% of the people were Hispanic or Latino.

Public schools for children in Wadsworth are part of the Bay City Independent School District. This includes Bay City High School. For education after high school, students can go to Wharton County Junior College in Bay City.
