The Wahidi Sultanate of Habban was a small state in a region called Hadhramaut. It was part of the British Aden Protectorate. A protectorate was like a smaller country that was protected and guided by a larger, more powerful country. The capital city of Wahidi Habban was Habban.
The last ruler, Sultan Husayn ibn Abd Allah Al Wahidi, was removed from power in 1967. This happened when the state was ended and the People's Republic of South Yemen was formed. Today, the area where Wahidi Habban once existed is part of the country of Yemen.

History of Wahidi Habban
The Wahidi Sultanate was a very old state. It started a long time ago, around the year 1640. Over time, this large sultanate changed.
In 1830, the original Wahidi Sultanate split into four smaller states. Think of it like a big pie being cut into four pieces. These four states were:
- Wahidi Sultanate of Ba´l Haf
- Wahidi Sultanate of `Azzan
- Wahidi Sultanate of Bi´r `Ali `Amaqin
- Wahidi Sultanate of Habban (our topic!)
Later, some of these smaller states decided to join together again. On May 4, 1881, the states of Ba´l Haf and `Azzan became one.
Becoming a British Protectorate
In 1888, the combined Wahidi Sultanate of Ba´l Haf and `Azzan became a British protectorate. This meant Britain would help protect them, but also had some influence over their decisions. In 1895, Bi´r `Ali `Amaqin also came under British protection.
On October 23, 1962, the joined sultanate was renamed simply the Wahidi Sultanate. However, Bi´r `Ali and Habban remained as separate, but less powerful, sultanates under this larger Wahidi Sultanate.
The End of the Sultanate
The Wahidi Sultanate of Habban, along with all the other states in the region, ended on November 29, 1967. This happened when the People's Republic of South Yemen became an independent country.
