About the Walebing Bird Area
This special area is called an Important Bird Area (IBA). It has many trees where black cockatoos can build their nests. These trees are on two private properties.
What Makes This Area Special?
The Walebing Important Bird Area includes parts of the land where native plants still grow. These are like small forests or groups of large, old trees. It does not include farm fields or areas with plants that are not native to Australia. The weather here is like a Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters.
Birds of Walebing
This site is very important for birds. It has been named an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International. This is because it helps protect a special type of bird.
Meet the Carnaby's Black Cockatoo
The Walebing area is home to up to 40 pairs of endangered short-billed black cockatoos. These cockatoos are very important! They build their nests in the old trees and eat in the native shrubland areas.
Other Birds You Might See
Besides the Carnaby's black cockatoos, other cool birds live here too. You might spot western corellas, which are white parrots. There are also colorful regent parrots. Look out for rufous treecreepers climbing on tree trunks. And don't miss the tiny, bright blue blue-breasted fairywrens!
