Charles Edgar Walker Hayes (born December 27, 1979) is an American country pop singer and songwriter. He has released four studio albums. These include Reason to Rhyme (2011), Boom (2017), Country Stuff the Album (2022), and New Money (2023). Walker Hayes has had many songs on the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. His song "Fancy Like" was a number one hit on both charts in late 2021 and early 2022.

Early Life and Education

Walker Hayes was born on December 27, 1979, in Mobile, Alabama. He has eight older half-siblings. Four are from his mother's earlier marriage, and four are from his father's earlier marriage. His father, Charles Hayes, worked as a realtor. He passed away in 2021.

Walker went to St. Paul’s Episcopal School in Mobile. He then graduated from Birmingham–Southern College in 2002. He earned a bachelor's degree in music, focusing on piano.

Walker Hayes' Music Journey

Starting Out in Music (2005–2015)

In 2005, Walker Hayes and his wife moved to Nashville. They hoped to start a career in country music. He first got a job writing songs for a music company in Nashville. Later, he signed a contract with Mercury Records Nashville. However, he was soon dropped from that label. He then moved to Capitol Records Nashville.

In 2010, he released his first song, "Pants." It appeared on the Hot Country Songs charts. The song's music video came out in December 2010. Walker Hayes also appeared on a TV show called 19 Kids and Counting. He sang a song he wrote for a couple's proposal. "Pants" and another song, "Why Wait for Summer," were on his album Reason to Rhyme.

Hayes also helped write and sang on "Dirty Side" for Colt Ford's 2014 album. He also co-wrote Rodney Atkins' song "Eat Sleep Love You Repeat." After his contract with Capitol Records ended, Hayes worked at a Costco store. He did this to support his family.

New Music and Hits (2016–2020)

In 2016, Hayes signed a new music deal. He released two short albums called 8Tracks Vol. 1 and 8Tracks Vol. 2. After this, he released his first song for Monument Records, "You Broke Up with Me." This song was on his album Boom. It became his first big hit on the Billboard music charts.

In August 2018, Hayes released a song called "90's Country." The lyrics of this song mention many titles of country songs from the 1990s.

Recent Albums and Popular Songs (2021–Present)

On June 4, 2021, Hayes released a short album called Country Stuff. One song from it, "Fancy Like," became very popular. It went viral on TikTok. The song reached number 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also hit number 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. This made it Hayes' most successful song so far. "Fancy Like" was later released to country radio.

The songs from the Country Stuff album were also included on his third studio album. This album, Country Stuff the Album, came out in 2022. Other songs from this album include "U Gurl" and "AA."

In July 2022, Hayes released the song "Y'all Life."

On July 28, 2023, Hayes released a two-song album called Strait Two Stepping. It included the songs "Stetson" and "Show Me the Country." These songs later appeared on his second studio album, New Money. The song "Good with Me" was also released from this album on August 25, 2023. The full album New Money came out on September 29, 2023.

In July 2024, Hayes worked with Canadian rapper Connor Price on a song called "Smoke." On August 16, 2024, Hayes released "Ball Player." This song was meant as an apology to his children about his feelings toward their sports careers.

In October 2024, Hayes announced "5 to 9" as his next song. It was released on October 11, 2024. Hayes has said this song is "bigger than Fancy Like."

Personal Life

Walker Hayes lives in Estill Springs, Tennessee. He lives there with his wife, Laney Beville Hayes, and their six children. The couple got married in 2004. Their seventh child, Oakleigh Klover Hayes, passed away shortly after birth on June 6, 2018. Hayes is a Christian and has been sober since 2015.
