Wallace State Park is a fun place for outdoor activities in Clinton County, Missouri. It's about 7 miles (11 km) south of a town called Cameron. This park is a "public recreation area," which means it's a place owned by the state where everyone can go to relax and have fun outdoors.

The park covers about 502 acres (203 hectares) of land. Inside, you'll find a 6-acre (2.4-hectare) lake named Lake Allaman. This lake is perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating. The park also has many hiking trails, picnic spots, and a campground where you can stay overnight.

History of Wallace State Park

How did Wallace State Park begin? The state of Missouri bought the first part of the park, about 121 acres (49 hectares), in 1932. They named it after the Wallace family, who had owned that land for over 100 years.

During the 1930s, a special government program called the Works Progress Administration (WPA) helped build many parts of the park. The WPA was a program that gave jobs to people during the Great Depression. They helped develop parks and other public places across the country. Thanks to their work, Wallace State Park became the wonderful place it is today!
