History of Wallace State Park
How did Wallace State Park begin? The state of Missouri bought the first part of the park, about 121 acres (49 hectares), in 1932. They named it after the Wallace family, who had owned that land for over 100 years.
During the 1930s, a special government program called the Works Progress Administration (WPA) helped build many parts of the park. The WPA was a program that gave jobs to people during the Great Depression. They helped develop parks and other public places across the country. Thanks to their work, Wallace State Park became the wonderful place it is today!
