The Indian smooth snake, also known as Wallophis brachyura or suvaro saap, is a rare and harmless snake. It belongs to the Colubridae family. This snake is special because it is only found in India. It was first described in 1866.

Where It Lives

You can find the Indian smooth snake in a few specific places. These spots are in the state of Maharashtra. This is in the western part of India. It is considered a rare snake.

Its Home

This snake likes to live in dry, flat areas. These places are called dry plains.

What It Looks Like

The Indian smooth snake has an olive-brown color on its back. It might have faint lighter patterns on its head and the front part of its body. Its belly is whitish.

This snake is not very long.

  • Male snakes can be about 51.5 centimeters (about 20 inches) long. Their tail is about 7.5 centimeters (about 3 inches).
  • Female snakes are a bit shorter, around 46 centimeters (about 18 inches) long. Their tail is about 5.5 centimeters (about 2 inches).
