Sir Warren East (born October 27, 1961) is a British businessman and engineer. He used to be the boss (called a chief executive officer or CEO) of Rolls-Royce Holdings, which is a big company in the UK that makes engines. Before that, he worked in important jobs at ARM Holdings and Texas Instruments.

Early Life and Education

Warren East went to Monmouth School when he was younger. He then studied engineering science at Wadham College, Oxford University. After that, he earned a special business degree called an MBA from Cranfield University.

Warren East has had a long and interesting career in technology and engineering. He has led some very important companies.

Working at Texas Instruments and ARM

Warren East worked for eleven years at a company called Texas Instruments. They make computer chips. In 1994, he left to join ARM Holdings. This British company designs microprocessors and software. At ARM, he started a new part of the company that helped other businesses.

Later, he became a vice-president at ARM. Within three years, he joined the main board as the chief operating officer. This meant he helped manage how the company worked every day. In October 2001, Warren East became the chief executive officer (CEO) of ARM Holdings. He left ARM on July 1, 2013.

Leading Rolls-Royce

In 2014, Warren East joined the board of Rolls-Royce Holdings. He became the head of their technology committee. In April 2015, Rolls-Royce announced that he would become their new CEO. He took over the role on July 2, 2015.

He guided Rolls-Royce through some tough times. This included the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on air travel. He also helped the company work towards being more environmentally friendly. He retired from Rolls-Royce at the end of 2022.

Other Important Roles

In January 2020, Warren East joined the board of ASML Holding. This is another big technology company. In April 2024, he became the Chair of NATS Holdings. NATS helps control air traffic for flights in the UK.

Awards and Recognition

Warren East has received many awards for his work in technology.

  • In 2014, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). This was for his great contributions to the technology industry.
  • He became a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2007.
  • In 2013, he was named a distinguished fellow of the British Computer Society.
  • He also became a fellow of the Royal Society in 2017.
  • In 2023, Loughborough University gave him an honorary degree. This was to celebrate his leadership in engineering and science.
  • In the 2025 New Year Honours, he was made a knight. This means he can use the title "Sir" before his name.

Personal Life

Warren East is married to Amanda, who is also an engineer. They have three children. He enjoys activities like sailing, cycling, skiing, and mountain walking. He also plays the organ at his local church.
