Washington Rock State Park is a beautiful park in Green Brook, New Jersey. It covers about 52 acres (21 hectares) and sits on top of the first Watchung Mountain. The New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry takes care of this special place.
This park is famous for a special spot called a "scenic overlook." From here, you can see far across the land. This viewpoint was used by General George Washington way back in 1777. He used it to watch the British troops, who were led by General William Howe. The view stretches about 30 miles (48 km) across the eastern plains of New Jersey, all the way to New York City.

A Historic Viewpoint
Washington Rock State Park is known for its amazing views. This spot played an important role during the American Revolutionary War. In 1777, General George Washington and his soldiers were fighting for America's freedom. They needed to keep a close eye on the British army.
Watching the British Army
General Washington chose this high spot on Watchung Mountain. From here, he could see the movements of the British troops. This helped him plan his army's next steps. History of the Park
The land for Washington Rock State Park was bought in 1913. It was purchased to create a park and remember the important events of 1777. The park officially opened in 1932.
