Watson Chapel is a neighborhood located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. It's found where two important roads meet: U.S. Route 79 (Camden Road) and Highway 54 (Sulphur Springs Road). This area is just southwest of downtown Pine Bluff.
A Look Back at Watson Chapel's History
The neighborhood of Watson Chapel got its name from a special person named Benjamin Watson. He was a minister from the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In the 1870s, he settled in a nearby place called Sulphur Springs.
In 1872, Benjamin Watson started a church and a school. They were first called Good Faith church. Later, in 1876, the name was changed to Watson's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. On April 5, 1880, a school district was officially created. The school continued to meet in Rev. Benjamin Watson's church until a separate building for the school was built in 1898.

Students in Watson Chapel are part of the Watson Chapel School District. This district includes Watson Chapel High School.
For reading and learning, the Pine Bluff and Jefferson County Library System has a branch here. It's called the Watson Chapel Dave Burdick Library. You can find it close to the high school, along U.S. Route 79. The library is named after Dave Burdick, who was the library director from 1991 to 2012.
