Wayanad district facts for kids
Wayanad District is a beautiful area, also known as a district, located in the northeast part of Kerala state in India. Its main town, where the district's offices are, is called Kalpetta. Wayanad became the 12th district in Kerala on November 1, 1980. It was created by taking parts from the Kozhikode and Kannur districts. Most of Wayanad is rural, meaning it has more villages and natural areas than big cities. However, it does have three important towns: Kalpetta, Mananthavady, and Sulthan Bathery.
Wayanad is home to some special places. In Pulpally, you can find the only Luv Kush Temple in Kerala. Also, in Vythiri, there is a unique mirror temple, which is a Jain temple. Ancient writings and caves, like those at Ambukuthimala, show that people have lived in this area for a very long time, even since the start of the New Age Civilisation.
