Wayne Ford was born in Washington, D.C. in 1951. He grew up in a busy part of Washington, D.C. He went to Ballou High School.
After high school, Wayne received a special scholarship for football. This scholarship allowed him to play football at Rochester Junior College in Minnesota. Later, in 1974, he earned his college degree in Education from Drake University. He also played football there on another scholarship.

Wayne Ford has been a very active member of the Iowa House. He works on different groups called committees. These committees study important topics and help decide on new laws.
He has been part of committees that deal with money (Appropriations). He also worked on groups focused on growing the economy (Economic Growth). Other committees he joined looked at human services (Human Resources) and how the government works (Government Oversight). He was even the vice-chair of the Government Oversight committee.
In 2006, Wayne Ford was re-elected to his position. He received 5,405 votes. He ran "unopposed," which means no one else ran against him for that election.
