We Are the World is a very famous song written by two music legends, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. It was first performed in 1985 by a special group called USA for Africa. The famous music producer Quincy Jones helped create it. The main goal of the song was to raise money and help people who were struggling in Africa.

The song was incredibly popular! It sold more than 20 million copies around the world. When the single record was first released, 800,000 copies were sent out, and they all sold out in just three days. "We Are the World" also won three Grammy Awards, which are huge music awards. At the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards, it won awards for Best Group Video and Viewer's Choice.

Making the Song

The music video for "We Are the World" showed how the song was recorded. It was filmed at the A&M Recording Studios with all the famous singers. The video was also sold on a video cassette, so people could watch it at home.

Helping Others Again

Many years later, in 2010, another group of artists made their own version of the song. They called it "We Are the World 25 for Haiti." This new version was also a charity song. It was made to help the people of Haiti after a terrible earthquake hit their country.
