Web television facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Web television is like regular TV shows, but they are made especially for the Internet. You watch them online instead of on a traditional TV channel. Sometimes, "web television" can also mean any TV show that you watch over the internet, even if it was originally made for regular TV.

Web television includes many cool shows called web series. Some popular ones are Carmilla, Red vs. Blue, and Video Game High School. There are also short series called miniseries, like Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. You can also find animated shorts, like those from Homestar Runner. Sometimes, web TV even has extra videos that go along with shows you see on regular TV.

What is Web Television?

Web television is content created specifically to be shown online. It's different from just watching a regular TV show on a streaming service. Web TV shows are planned and produced with the internet in mind. This means they might have shorter episodes or different ways of telling stories.

Where to Watch Web TV

Many big companies help you watch web television. Some of the main places are Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Disney+, and YouTube. These platforms host a huge variety of web shows for you to discover. There are also companies that create these shows, like Generate LA-NY and Revision3.

Web TV Awards and Recognition

Web television has become very popular and important. In 2008, a group called the International Academy of Web Television was formed. They help support the people who make web TV shows, like actors and producers. This group also helps choose the winners for the Streamy Awards, which celebrate the best in online video.

Other festivals and awards also focus on web content. These include the Los Angeles Web Series Festival and the Indie Series Awards. They help show off amazing web series and give awards to talented creators.

In 2013, something big happened. A classic TV show called All My Children moved from regular TV to web television. Because of this, the Daytime Emmy Awards created a new category just for "Fantastic web-only series."

Later that same year, Netflix made history. Their web series, like Arrested Development and House of Cards, were nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards. This was a huge step for web television, showing it was just as good as traditional TV. In 2017, Hulu won the first Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series for its web show The Handmaid's Tale. This showed that web TV could win the biggest awards in television.
