Today, students in Weed attend schools within the Cloudcroft Municipal Schools district.

In the past, schools in Weed were part of the Alamogordo Public Schools district. There was a Weed Elementary School and a Weed High School. Weed High School first opened around 1885. Before joining Alamogordo, Weed schools were managed by the Otero County Board of Education.

In 1959, Weed schools officially joined the Alamogordo district. This happened because people in Weed thought Alamogordo would keep their schools open longer. They worried about schools closing if fewer students enrolled.

By 1991, Weed schools had about 50 students. There were 25 students in elementary school and 25 in high school. That year, the Alamogordo school board decided to close Weed High School. They said it cost too much to keep it open.

After the high school closed, a deal was made with Cloudcroft schools. Weed high school students started going to school in Cloudcroft. Some people in Weed did not like this. They felt Cloudcroft schools were too big.

Weed Elementary School stayed open for a while as part of the Alamogordo district. However, by 1992, there were very few students left. New Mexico law says a school needs at least eight students to stay open. Because of low enrollment, Weed Elementary School also closed.

Since then, all students from Weed, from kindergarten through high school, attend schools in the Cloudcroft district.
