José Wellington Barroso de Araújo Dias, known as Wellington Dias, was born on March 5, 1962, in Oeiras, Piauí, Brazil. He is a well-known Brazilian politician. He has served as the Governor of Piauí state multiple times. He is also a former federal Senator for Piauí. Wellington Dias is a member of the Workers' Party.
He is married to Rejane Dias. She was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Piauí and also served as the First Lady of Piauí. They have three children together: Iasmin, Vinícius, and Daniely.

Early Life and Education
Wellington Dias was born in Oeiras, Piauí. He grew up in Paes Landim, also in Piauí. His father, Joaquim Antônio Neto, was a mayor. His mother, Teresinha de Araújo Dias, was a deputy mayor.
He studied Portuguese Literature at the Federal University of Piauí. Later, he specialized in Public Policy and Government. This helped him understand how governments work.
Starting His Career
Wellington Dias began working at age 19. He was a broadcaster at Rádio Difusora in Teresina. He also worked in banks, including Banco do Nordeste and Banco do Estado do Piauí.
At 22, he joined Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF). This is a large Brazilian bank. He became a manager there in 1984.
Political Journey
Wellington Dias started his political journey early. He was active in student movements. He also joined labor unions. In 1985, he became a member of the Workers' Party (PT).
He led the association for Caixa Econômica Federal employees. He also served as president of the Bank Employees Union in Piauí. These roles helped him gain experience in leadership.
Serving the Public
Wellington Dias has held many important public offices:
- City Council Member: From 1993 to 1995, he was a member of the Teresina city council.
- State Representative: From 1995 to 1999, he served in the Legislative Assembly of Piauí.
- Federal Deputy: From 1999 to 2002, he was a Federal Deputy. This meant he represented Piauí in the national parliament.
- Governor of Piauí: He served as Governor of Piauí for two terms, from 2003 to 2010. He was elected again and served from 2015 to 2022.
- Federal Senator: From 2011 to 2015, he was a Federal Senator for Piauí.
