Wesley Newton, born on August 27, 1977, is an English professional darts player. He's known as "The Warrior" and has achieved many great things in the world of darts.

Wes Newton's Darts Journey

Wes Newton started his journey in professional darts with the PDC. His first big event was the 2003 UK Open. He played well but lost in the last 32 players.

In 2005, Wes made his debut at the World Championship. He also reached the semi-finals of the 2005 Las Vegas Desert Classic. This was a big step for him. Unfortunately, he broke his collarbone after this event, which kept him from playing for three months.

Wes kept working hard. In 2008, he won a special qualifier to enter the 2008 Grand Slam of Darts. He had a good start, winning his first two games.

Breaking into the Top 16

In 2010, Wes had a fantastic weekend. He won two Players Championship tournaments in a row! This amazing achievement helped him break into the top 16 players in the world for the first time.

2011: Reaching the Quarter-Finals and a Major Final

The year 2011 was a big one for Wes. He reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship. He also made it to his first ever televised final at the UK Open. He played against James Wade in the final but finished as the runner-up. After this, he even got a famous darts player, Peter Manley, to be his manager.

At the World Matchplay, Wes played very well. He reached the quarter-finals and even hit a rare nine-dart finish in one of his matches! A nine-dart finish is when a player scores 501 points in just nine throws, which is the fewest possible. It's a very difficult and exciting achievement in darts.

2012: Another Final and a Televised Nine-Darter

Wes continued his strong performance in 2012. He won two UK Open qualifier events. At the World Matchplay, he hit his first ever televised nine-dart finish! This was a truly special moment for him and for darts fans watching.

Later that year, Wes reached his second major final at the European Championship in Germany. He played against Simon Whitlock in the final and finished as the runner-up. He also made it to the semi-finals of the World Grand Prix.

2013: Winning a European Tour Title

In 2013, Wes reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship again. He also played in the Premier League for the first time, which is a competition for the top darts players.

A big highlight for Wes in 2013 was winning his first European Tour title. He won the European Darts Trophy in Germany. He described this as the best win of his career!

2014: Another Strong Year

Wes reached the quarter-finals of the World Championship for the third time in four years in 2014. He also made it to the semi-finals of the Players Championship Finals.

2015-2018: Facing Challenges

In 2015, Wes had a tough start to the year, losing in the first round of the World Championship. His form dipped, and he struggled with a shoulder injury. He didn't qualify for some of the major events he used to play in regularly.

By 2017, Wes was no longer a full-time professional player on the PDC circuit. He tried to win back his professional status in 2018 but was unsuccessful. He then started playing on the PDC's Challenge Tour, which is for players who are not on the main tour.

Playing in the BDO

In 2018, Wes also began playing in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). He qualified for the 2019 BDO World Darts Championship, showing his continued passion for the sport.

Wes Newton's Life Outside Darts

Wes Newton lives in Fleetwood, England. He is known by his nickname "The Warrior" when he plays darts. Darts runs in his family! His younger brother, Dale Newton, was also a professional darts player. Even his dad, Colin, is a high-level amateur player. Wes says he owes his career to his cousin Leon, who taught him how to play when they were kids.

Wes and his partner, Stacey, have two children named Fraser Wesley and Zac. Before becoming a full-time professional darts player in 2009, he worked as an accounts clerk.

He is a big fan of football and supports two teams: Fleetwood Town and Liverpool.
