Wesley is a small, unincorporated community located in Wayne Township, within Montgomery County, in the state of Indiana in the United States. This means it's a place with a name but no official local government.

History of Wesley

Wesley has a rich history, especially with its old buildings and connections to the past.

Early Buildings and Landmarks

This community once had a train station, but it is no longer there. It was also home to a church school called Wesley Academy. The building for Wesley Academy is still standing, but it is not used as a school anymore.

The Wesley Chapel Church building was built in 1901. This church is still standing today. Sometimes, worship services are held there. The Wesley Cemetery is also still in use. Many of the original stained glass windows and other old parts are still inside the Wesley Chapel building.

Location and Modern Day Wesley

The main part of Wesley is found on the northern side of Section 20 in Wayne Township. It is located on the south side of U.S. Highway 136.

Today, the most noticeable buildings in Wesley are the old Wesley Academy School and the Wesley Church. To the east of the church, you can find Wesley Storage. There is also a butcher shop and meat locker called Miller's Quality Meats and Catering, along with several homes.

Railroad and Post Office

The Big Four Railroad was built near Wesley in 1869. About 1.2 miles west of the community, a special train stop was created. It was called Wesley Flag Station.

At this station, there was a post office, a grocery store, and a shop that made cabinets. A windmill was used to pump water for the trains. In the 1870s, when the road was graveled, a toll booth was also set up here.

A post office officially opened in Wesley in 1860. It served the community for many years. However, it closed down in 1902.
