Wesley Methodist Church is a friendly church located right next to Christ's Pieces park in the heart of Cambridge, England. It's a special place for people who follow the Methodist faith. The church was built in 1913. Its main goal was to welcome young Methodists who came to study at the University of Cambridge.

The church is named after John Wesley. He was a very important person who helped start the Methodist movement. This church replaced an older Methodist church from 1849. That old church was on Hobson Street. Its land was later used for the County Hall of Cambridgeshire.

About the Church Building

The building itself has a special look. It is built in the Neo-Gothic style. This means it looks like older, grand churches from the Gothic period. But it was built much later. The church had a big makeover in 1990. This update cost about £1.3 million. During this work, a beautiful old organ was installed. This organ was made by William Hill & Sons in 1844.

What Happens at Wesley Church Today?

Wesley Methodist Church is one of thirteen churches in the Cambridge Methodist Circuit. It is also one of two Methodist churches in the city of Cambridge. The other one is on Castle Street. Today, the church is a busy place. It hosts many different activities for the community.

It is still a working church. People gather there for daily prayer. There are also several Sunday services each week. A group for students, called Cambridge Student Methodist Society (MethSoc), meets here. They have their weekly meetings in the church's "Upper Room."

Important Connections

Wesley Methodist Church has strong connections with other Methodist places in Cambridge. These include Wesley House, which is a college for religious studies. It also has links to The Leys School, a well-known school in the area.
