West Azarbaijan (also spelled West Azerbaijan) is one of the 31 provinces in Iran. Its official name in Persian is Āzarbāijān-e Gharbī. People also call it Azerbaycanî Rojawa in Kurdish and Qərbi Azərbaycan in Azeri.
This province covers a large area of about 39,487 square kilometers (15,246 square miles). If you include the famous Lake Urmia, the area becomes even bigger, around 43,660 square kilometers (16,857 square miles). The main city and capital of West Azarbaijan is Urmia.
