Iran is a large country in the Middle East. It is divided into 31 main parts called provinces. In the Persian language, a province is called an ostān. If you are talking about more than one, they are called ostānhā.
Each province has its own local government. This government usually operates from the biggest city in that province. This main city is known as the capital of the province. In Persian, the capital is called a markaz.
