Ardabil Province (which is Ostān-e Ardabīl in Persian) is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. Think of a province like a big state or region within a country. Its capital city is Ardabil. This province was created in 1993. It was formed from parts of two other areas: the eastern part of East Azarbaijan and the northern part of Gilan.
