A Look at West Green's Past

West Green has had a few different names over the years! At first, people called it The Twenty. This was because it was about 20 miles south of a town called Hazlehurst. Later, its name changed again to Garrant.

In 1914, something important happened: the state government of Georgia, called the Georgia General Assembly, decided to make West Green an official town. This meant it had its own rules and local government. But many years later, in 1995, the state changed its mind. They took away West Green's official town status. So, it went back to being an unincorporated community, meaning it no longer had its own town government.
