The Archaeosynthemis occidentalis is a type of dragonfly often called the western brown tigertail. It's a medium-sized insect with cool reddish-brown and yellow patterns on its body.
This special dragonfly lives only in south-western Australia. When we say it's "endemic" to a place, it means you won't find it naturally anywhere else in the world! It loves to hang out in wet places like boggy creeks and swamps.
The western brown tigertail looks a lot like another dragonfly, the Archaeosynthemis orientalis, which lives on the eastern side of Australia.
