History of Weston
How Weston Started
Weston was officially planned on August 26, 1867. A person named W. F. Bryan was in charge of setting up the town. The first plan for Weston included 288 small plots of land. It also had five larger areas that were not divided into smaller pieces. A public park was also part of the original design.
Weston and the Railroad
The town was built along the Toledo Peoria and Western Railroad line. This railroad was important for travel and trade back then. The train station and the town hall were both located on the south side of the railroad tracks. By the year 1895, Weston had grown to have four churches.
Weston Cemetery Prairie
Just east of Weston, there is a special natural area. It is called Weston Cemetery Prairie. This area is home to a natural tall grass prairie. A prairie is a large area of flat land covered with grasses. It is a place where you can see what the land looked like a long time ago.
