Location of Westville, Ohio

Westville is a small community located in Ohio, United States. It's in the northeastern part of Mad River Township, which is in Champaign County. Unlike a city or town, Westville is an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government, but it's still a recognized place where people live. Westville has its own post office and a special ZIP code, 43083. You can find it right where two important roads meet: U.S. Route 36 and State Route 560.

A Look Back: Westville's History

Westville has a long history, dating back over 200 years! It started as a place where people settled and built homes.

How Westville Began

The very first person to settle in the area that would become Westville was a man named Basil West. He arrived in 1805. The community was later officially "laid out," or planned, around 1816. This means people started to organize the streets and plots of land.

Early Buildings and Services

Just two years after it was planned, in 1818, the first building was constructed in Westville. It was built on the northwest corner of the main intersection. This was an important step in the community's growth. A few years later, in 1828, Westville got its own post office. This made it much easier for people to send and receive mail, connecting them with the rest of the world.
