The Weymouth Meeting House Historic District is a very old and important part of Weymouth, Massachusetts. This special area is found near Church, East, Green, North, and Norton Streets. It holds some of Weymouth's most historic places.
Here you can find the town's oldest cemetery, called the North Cemetery, which started around 1636. It also has the spot where Weymouth's first meeting house once stood. The church building from 1833, belonging to the town's first church group, is also here.
This district is also famous as the birthplace of Abigail Adams. She was a very important woman who became the wife of President John Adams and the mother of President John Quincy Adams. The John Adams School, the oldest schoolhouse still standing in Weymouth, is also part of this district.
This area was the main center of Weymouth until 1723. After that, it became the center of North Weymouth until 1833. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 because of its historical importance.
