Wheeling is a small place in Indiana, located in a part of the state called Delaware County. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Washington Township.
A Look Back at Wheeling's Past
Wheeling has an interesting history, especially when it comes to its name! Long ago, this community had a post office, which is a place where people send and receive mail.
The Post Office's Name Change
When the post office first opened in 1834, it was called Cranberry. A few years later, in 1838, its name was changed to Wheeling. The post office continued to serve the community for many years until it finally closed down in 1933.
