About Whitchurch Golf Club
Whitchurch Golf Club is known for its beautiful "parkland" course. This means the course has lots of trees and open grassy areas, like a park. It's a great place to enjoy nature while playing golf. The club welcomes both visitors and groups who want to play together.
Club History and Milestones
The club was started a long time ago, on 24 July 1914. This means it has been around for over 100 years! In July 2014, the club celebrated its 100th birthday, which is called a centenary. Famous golf players like Peter Alliss even attended the celebration.
During World War II, a part of the golf course was used for a very important purpose. Instead of just being for golf, some of the land was used to grow vegetables. This helped provide food during the war.
Special Achievements and Records
Whitchurch Golf Club has received some special awards. In 2005, 2006, and 2008, it won the award for the best golf club in the "Wales in Bloom" competition. It was also named "the best inland golf course in Wales" by "Welsh Club Golfer" magazine.
A famous golfer named Ian Woosnam holds the club record for the lowest score on the course. He scored an amazing 62, which is much lower than the usual "par" score for the course.
