About White Cone High School
White Cone High School opened its doors in 2005. It was built to give local students a public high school close to home. Before White Cone High, the nearest public high school was an hour away in Holbrook. Another school, Hopi Junior/Senior High School, was already full. It is also located on the Hopi reservation, not the Navajo Nation.
Why the School Was Built
The school offered grades 9 through 12. It was a public high school, meaning it was supported by the state. In October 2010, about 88 students attended the school. Their mascot was the Broncos, and their colors were royal blue and silver. The school aimed to provide education for students in the area.
Why White Cone High School Closed
White Cone High School closed in May 2012. The school district's board decided to close it in February of that year. They voted 3 to 2 to shut down the school. The main reason for closing was ongoing money problems. The building where the high school used to be now houses an online school. This new school is called White Cone Academy.
