Getting to White Oaks Mall
White Oaks Mall is easy to reach! It's located in South London, right next to a main road called Wellington Road. Many London Transit Commission buses stop here. There are two bus stops at Jalna Boulevard and four more at the Wellington Road entrance. This makes it simple for people to visit the mall using public transport. Soon, it might even be the end stop for one of London's new rapid transit lines!
The Story of White Oaks Mall
How It Started
Before White Oaks Mall became the big indoor shopping center it is today, there was a smaller outdoor plaza built in 1962. This was before many homes were built in the area. In 1972, the old plaza was completely rebuilt. It officially opened as a fully enclosed shopping mall in 1973. Back then, it had a large store called Woolco and more than 150 other shops.
Growing Bigger Over Time
White Oaks Mall grew a lot over the years! Its first big expansion happened in 1976. A new department store called Simpson's opened, and a long hallway with more stores was added. The mall kept growing quickly in the 1980s. It had three major expansions in just five years!
In 1983, a Mark's and Spencer's store opened. A new food court was also added, replacing an old grocery store. Soon after, in 1986, a brand new section of the mall was built. The biggest expansion happened in 1988, adding over 50 more stores!
White Oaks Mall Today
The mall continued to update itself. In 2006, a small expansion brought in the popular Swedish clothing store H&M. An Applebee's restaurant also opened.
In 2010, a company called CPP Investment Board became the only owner of the mall. Then, in 2013, Bentall Kennedy took over ownership. Since then, the mall has had even more updates, including new decorations.
Today, White Oaks Mall is a huge shopping destination. It has over 185 different stores and services for everyone to enjoy!
