The Original White's Station
The name "White Station" comes from an old train stop called White's Station. This station was built way back in 1842. It was a key stop on the LaGrange and Memphis Railroad. This railway later became part of the Memphis and Charleston Railroad. Today, parts of this historic route are used by the Norfolk Southern Railway.
Growing with Memphis
For a long time, White Station was on the very edge of Memphis. It marked the eastern boundary of the city until the 1950s. During that decade, White Station officially became a part of Memphis. This process is called "annexation," which means the city expanded its borders to include the neighborhood. After this, White Station grew into one of the main and most important neighborhoods in East Memphis.
