The Story of Whitfield
Whitfield has an interesting past. It wasn't always called Whitfield! When it was first started in 1892, it was known as Stremler.
In the same year, 1892, a post office was opened in Whitfield. A post office was very important back then. It was where people sent and received letters and packages. It helped connect the community to the rest of the world.
However, the post office in Whitfield didn't stay open forever. It closed down in 1906. Even though the post office is gone, Whitfield continues to be a part of Martin County's history.
