Wibele are tiny, sweet biscuits that come from the city of Langenburg in Germany. Even though they started in a region called Franconia, today many people think of them as a special treat from Swabia.
These delicate biscuits are made from simple ingredients. They use egg white, icing sugar, flour, and vanilla sugar. Wibele are a bit like another German biscuit called "Russisch Brot" (which means "Russian bread"). However, Wibele are baked for a shorter time, just until they turn a light brown color.
What Wibele Look Like
Wibele have a very unique and fun shape. They are shaped like the number 8. Officially, they are supposed to be about 22 millimeters long. That's a little less than an inch! They are also about 12 millimeters wide. This small size makes them perfect for a quick, sweet bite.
The Story Behind Wibele
Wibele were invented a long time ago by a clever cook. His name was Jakob Christian Carl Wibel. He worked as the court cook for the prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. That's how these special biscuits got their name!
Today, there is a famous place called Café Bauer in Langenburg. This café is the only company allowed to make "Original Wibele." They got the special rights to this name back in 1911. But don't worry, you can still find Wibele biscuits made by other companies too!
