History of the Wick Baptist Church
The Baptist Church for Wick has moved to several different places over the years.
Early Beginnings
When the church first began in 1806, the people who attended, called the Baptist congregation, met in a small room. This room was located in a loft on Kirk Lane. Later, they moved to another room, which was above a shop called Bows Baker Shop.
New Buildings and Moves
A church building was later constructed on High Street. However, this building is no longer there. It was taken down during a big project to rebuild parts of the town in the 1970s.
In 1865, the Baptist congregation moved into a brand new church building on Union Street. After they moved, the old High Street building was then used as a Mission Hall. A Mission Hall is a place where people can gather for religious activities and community help.
Modern Home
In the 1980s, another church nearby, the Pulteneytown Central Church on Dempster Street, closed down. Years later, in 1998, the Wick Baptist Church moved into this building. Before they moved in, the building was completely updated and made more modern. This move happened when the Rev. Angus Morrison was leading the Baptist Church.
