Wickham Heights facts for kids

The Wickham Heights (also known as Alturas Rivadavia in Spanish) are a rugged chain of mountains found on East Falkland in the Falkland Islands. These mountains are home to the island group's highest peak, Mount Usborne, and also include Mount Wickham. The slopes of the Wickham Heights feature many interesting stone runs, which are long rivers of rocks, some stretching up to 5 kilometers (about 3 miles) long!
Wickham Heights: The Spine of East Falkland
The Wickham Heights are located in the northern part of East Falkland. They stretch from east to west and reach heights of nearly 2,000 feet (about 610 meters) in some places. These mountains form what is often called the "spine" of East Falkland, sitting north of an area known as Lafonia.
Rivers and Streams
Many important rivers and streams begin their journey in the Wickham Heights. For example, the Malo River and the San Carlos River both spring from these mountains. These rivers then flow across the landscape, providing water to the surrounding areas.
