Wilhelm J. Sluka, also known as Conditorei Sluka, is a very famous pastry shop and café in Vienna, Austria. It is a traditional "k.u.k. Hoflieferant," which means it was a special supplier to the royal court in the past.
You can find Sluka at Rathausplatz 8 in the first district of Vienna, called the Innere Stadt.
A Sweet History
The Sluka pastry shop was started in 1891 by Wilhelm Josef Sluka and his wife, Josefine. They made very high-quality sweets.
Royal Recognition
Because of their amazing products, Sluka received a special title in 1896. They became the "confectioner to the k.u.k. court." This meant they were the official pastry makers for the Emperor and Empress!
Famous people, including Empress Elisabeth herself, loved to visit the café. Its central spot and quiet atmosphere also attracted important people. Ministers and representatives from the nearby Parliament Building often came. People from the City Hall, stars from the Burgtheater (a famous theater), and many wealthy families also enjoyed Sluka's treats.
Sluka Today
Today, Sluka is still very popular, especially with tourists visiting Vienna.
In 2000, the café won an award called the "Golden Coffee-Bean" from Jacobs, a well-known coffee company. This award recognized their excellent coffee.
