How Jacobs Coffee Grew
The Jacobs company grew a lot under the leadership of Klaus Johann Jacobs. He took over the business in 1970.
Expanding the Business
Klaus Johann Jacobs helped the company expand into new areas. In 1982, Jacobs joined with a Swiss chocolate company called Interfood. Together, they formed a new company named Jacobs Suchard. Later, in 1987, Jacobs Suchard bought an American candy company called Brach's Candy.
Changes in Ownership
Most of Jacobs Suchard, except for Brach's and Interfood, was sold to Kraft Foods in 1990. For many years, from the 1970s until 1990, Jacobs coffee was also made by a company called Jacob's in Ireland.
