Wilhelm Wieben (born June 2, 1935 – died June 13, 2019) was a famous German journalist, actor, and author. He was best known for presenting the daily news on Tagesschau. This was the most-watched news show on German television. He worked there from 1973 until 1998.

Early Life and Career

Wilhelm Wieben was born in Hennstedt, Dithmarschen, a town in Germany. After finishing school, he decided to study theater. He attended the Max-Reinhardt-Schule für Schauspiel in Berlin. This school helped him learn how to act.

Later, he started his career as a journalist. He worked for Radio Bremen, which is a public broadcasting company. His most famous role was as a news presenter for the TV channel ARD. He presented the news on Tagesschau for many years. He retired from this job in 1998.

Author and Voice Actor

Besides his work in television, Wilhelm Wieben also wrote books. He wrote them in Low German, which is a regional language spoken in Northern Germany. His books helped keep this language alive.

He also used his voice in other ways. He was heard in the hit song Jeanny by the artist Falco. Wilhelm Wieben spoke the newsflash part in the song.
