William Alington, 3rd Baron Alington was an important person in Ireland who held a special title called a "peerage." He was born sometime before 1641 and passed away on February 1, 1685.
William Alington was the son of William Alington, 1st Baron Alington and Elizabeth Tollemache. When his older brother, the 2nd Baron, passed away without any sons, William became the 3rd Baron Alington of Killard, County Cork. This happened around March 1660.

Member of Parliament
In 1664, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cambridge. He was elected during a special election called a by-election to the Cavalier Parliament. He was chosen again for the same area in 1679 and 1681.
New Title
On December 5, 1682, he received another special title. He was made the 1st Baron Alington of Wymondley, Hertfordshire.

He first married Catherine Stanhope before 1662. Catherine was the daughter of Henry Stanhope, Lord Stanhope, and Katherine, Countess of Chesterfield.
Second Marriage
His second marriage was to Juliana Noel on July 30, 1664. She was the daughter of Baptist Noel, 3rd Viscount Campden.
Third Marriage and Children
On July 15, 1675, he married Lady Diana Russell. She was the daughter of William Russell, 1st Duke of Bedford. William and Diana had two children:
- Catherine Alington, who married Sir Nathaniel Napier, 3rd Baronet in 1694.
- Giles Alington, 4th Baron Alington, who later became the next Baron Alington.
William Alington passed away in 1685.
