Who Was William Bullock?

William Bullock was a Scottish nobleman who lived in the 1300s. He started his career in the church. Later, he became a key figure in Scottish politics during a time of great change. Scotland was often fighting for its independence during this period.

Early Career and Loyalty Changes

In 1334, William Bullock was chosen as the Chamberlain of Scotland by Edward Balliol. Balliol was a king who had support from England. Bullock was also in charge of Cupar Castle. In 1339, a Scottish leader named William Douglas, Lord of Liddesdale attacked Cupar Castle. Bullock decided to give up the castle. He then changed his loyalty to the side of David II of Scotland, who was the true Scottish king from the Bruce family.

Serving the King

After changing sides, Bullock became a strong supporter of King David II. He helped the Scottish forces in important battles. For example, he assisted with the attack on Perth in 1339. He also helped with the siege of Edinburgh Castle in 1341. These were big victories for the Scottish king.

From 1341 to 1342, William Bullock again served as the Chamberlain of Scotland. This time, he worked directly for King David II. He managed the country's money and resources.

His Final Years

In 1342, something went wrong for William Bullock. After a conflict involving Alexander Ramsay of Dalhousie, King David II had Bullock arrested. He was accused of working against the king. Bullock was imprisoned in Lochinorb Castle. Sadly, he died while in prison around 1343.
