His Role in the Northwest Indian War

In 1794, Major Campbell was in charge of a British fort. This fort was built on the Miami Rapids. At this time, there was a conflict called the Northwest Indian War. This war was fought between the United States and a group of Native American tribes. The British also had a role in this area.

During the war, American troops led by Major-General Anthony Wayne and his Legion of the United States were advancing. Major Campbell was at his fort. He decided not to fight the American soldiers. This decision was made before General Wayne's army arrived.

Becoming Governor of Bermuda

Later, William Campbell was chosen to be the Governor of Bermuda. A governor is like a leader or manager for a territory or island. They are in charge of the government and making sure things run smoothly.

Campbell arrived in Bermuda on November 22, 1796. However, his time as governor was very short. He sadly passed away just ten days later, on December 2, 1796. He was buried at St. Peter's Church in Bermuda.
