William Chadwell was an English lawyer and politician who lived in the 1600s. He was born in 1614. He became a member of the House of Commons, which is part of the English Parliament, from 1640 to 1644. During the English Civil War, he was a strong supporter of King Charles I.

Early Life and Education

William Chadwell was the son of another man named William Chadwell. His family lived in a place called Broadwell in Gloucestershire, England.

When he was 17, William Chadwell started studying at Exeter College, Oxford University. This was on December 2, 1631. He worked hard and earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts (BA), on June 7, 1632. In 1640, he became a lawyer after training at Lincoln's Inn, which is a famous place in London for lawyers.

A Career in Parliament

In April 1640, William Chadwell was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Mitchell. This was for a short meeting of Parliament known as the Short Parliament.

Later that same year, in November 1640, he was chosen again as an MP for Mitchell. This time, it was for a longer period known as the Long Parliament. He served in Parliament until January 22, 1644. He was removed from his position because he supported King Charles I during the English Civil War.

In November 1644, William Chadwell received another special degree. It was called a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.).
