William Duckett (born around May 1624 – died November 1, 1686) was an important English person. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a part of the government, from 1659 to 1679.

William Duckett was the son of John Duckett and Jane Winter. His family lived at Hartham House in Corsham, Wiltshire. His father supported the King during the English Civil War. William started studying at St John's College, Oxford, when he was 16 years old in 1640. Later, in 1642, he also became a student at the Inner Temple, which was a place where people learned to become lawyers.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In 1659, William Duckett was chosen to be a Member of Parliament for Calne. This happened during a time called the Third Protectorate Parliament. He was chosen again in 1660 for the Convention Parliament.

Serving in Parliament

He was elected one more time in 1661 for the Cavalier Parliament. He stayed in this role until 1679. The Duckett family had a lot of influence in Calne. William's father had also been a Member of Parliament for Calne in earlier years.

William Duckett's Family Life

William Duckett was married three times during his life.

First Marriage

His first marriage was to Elizabeth Henshaw on March 6, 1650. They were married in London. Elizabeth was the sister of a famous alchemist named Thomas Henshaw. William and Elizabeth had at least one child:

  • Lionel Duckett (1652–1693), who also became a Member of Parliament for Calne later on. Elizabeth passed away around 1654.

Second Marriage

Around 1655, William married again to Anne Chapman. Anne was a widow whose first name was Knight. They had several children together:

  • Jane Duckett (1657–1713)
  • Three sons who sadly did not live very long. Anne passed away in 1667.

Third Marriage

About two years later, in September 1669, William married for the third time. His third wife was Margaret Moore. She was the daughter of Sir Henry Moore. William and Margaret did not have any children together that we know of.

Later Life and Passing

William Duckett passed away on November 1, 1686, at his home in Calne, Wiltshire. He was 62 years old. He was buried a few days later, on November 5, 1686. His wife, Margaret, handled his will after he died.
