William Charles Anthony Gaunt (born on April 3, 1937) is an English actor. He is well-known for his roles in popular TV shows. These include playing Richard Barrett in The Champions and Arthur Crabtree in No Place Like Home. He also played Andrew Prentice in Next of Kin. William Gaunt has had many other TV roles. He also has a long career acting and directing plays on stage. He has even performed with the famous Royal Shakespeare Company.

Early Life and First Roles
William Gaunt's father was a solicitor, which is a type of lawyer. William went to Giggleswick School and then to Baylor University in Texas. After that, he studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
He spent three years working in different repertory theatres. These were in towns like Worthing, Bath, and Salisbury. He then spent another year in America. Later, he came back to the UK and worked on plays in Birmingham and Coventry. He also spent some time serving in the army.
Starting on Television
In the 1960s, William Gaunt had small roles in TV series. These included Z-Cars and The Avengers. He also appeared in films like The Sinister Man (1961).
In 1968, he got a big role as Richard Barrett. This character was a super-powered secret agent in the British show The Champions. In 1966, he was in an episode of The Saint. He also had a regular role as Constable Bob Marriott in Sergeant Cork. This show followed policemen in Victorian London. From 1977 to 1978, he appeared in many episodes of the TV series "The Foundation."
Later Acting Career
From 1983 to 1987, William Gaunt starred in the comedy show No Place Like Home. He played Arthur Crabtree, a father who often felt stressed. After this, he made many guest appearances in other TV series.

Personal Life
William Gaunt married actress Carolyn Lyster on September 7, 1974. They have two children, a daughter named Matilda and a son named Albie.
